Recent Catch Reports

We started our year out with a blistering cold front that knocked us out of a the first week of fishing. But the water warmed soon after, and among other things we were able to catch some temperature sensitive bonefish. Ron Stevenson of Bloomington, IN managed to land four, plus a gaggle of decent-sized bar jacks and jack crevelle, making for an action-packed morning. Cooler weather was the norm though, so for the most part we fished out in Florida Bay, up in Everglades National Park, or on nice days, out on the reef during the first couple of months of '08.
PHOTO: That's not a guitar Rogan Allen of Nashville TN is strumming...it's 26 pounds of delicious African Pompano headed for the cleaning table. Rogan says that pound for pound it was as hard a fish as he's ever fought. He got his "AP" while we were dropping live baits on a deep wreck out beyond the reef.

PHOTO: While he and his dad were hunting for permit on the edge of a flat, Taylor Shane caught this cobia sight casting. The cobia was released. Below is Taylor's dad, Matt, with his first permit. The permit ate a crab that was cast in front of him.
PHOTO: Reid Goodman caught this tailing bonefish on a small crab at sunset, then enjoyed some great after-dark snook fishing (caught and released 7) at a nearby bridge.
Mick Koven of Miami displays a nice mutton snapper taken at the Seven Mile Bridge. The tasty snapper fell for a "plug" cut from a fresh ballyhoo. This photo also appeared on the cover of the November/ December '08 issue of Fishing The Florida Keys put out by the Florida Keys Keynoter.
PHOTO: Eleven year old Jenny Dissette of South Florida got the better of this 45 pound tarpon back in June. Live pinfish was the bait of choice.
